As with any surgical procedure, recovery from plastic surgery involves some discomfort and swelling that can last several days, even weeks. Following a revision rhinoplasty procedure (secondary nose job), the area around the nose can become extremely swollen. There are a number of methods to help reduce swelling and mitigate discomfort. In fact, the following steps should prove helpful during your recovery:
Step 1: Elevating your head can increase blood flow and reduce swelling. While resting or sleeping, your head should be at about a 45 degree angle, backrests and recliners are the best choices. Elevation helps increase blood flow and reduces swelling after revision rhinoplasty.
Step 2: Ice packs are also very effective against swelling. For best results, wrap crushed ice in a soft towel and leave the ice pack on for 20 minutes, then remove for 40 minutes. Continue the ice pack cycle for an entire day.
Step 3: Homeopathic herbs such as Arnica Montana and Bromelain help reduce swelling from the inside out. Bromelain and Arnica are known for their anti-inflammatory properties. When taken a few days before and after the procedure, these herbs can drastically reduce not only swelling, but also recovery time.
